Security forces have warned former Forum for Democratic Change leader Rtd Col Dr Kizza Besigye over his plans to stage unlawful protests in Kampala.

According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the Joint Security Agencies have obtained credible information about plans by the Rtd. Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye and other opposition agents, to reactivate the P-10 structure, in all cells and local councils, within the greater Kampala area.

Besigye and his group plan to cause acts of disorder, lawlessness and mayhem in Kampala.

He has continuously maintained that it is only through forceful means that political change and relevance, can take place.

This development comes at a time when the economy has fully re-opened, and many sectors trying to get back on track.

“We therefore, call upon the Rtd. Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye, to use legitimate means to achieve his objectives and further remind him that the Public Order Management Act is still in force.  Therefore, any individual actors or groups with plans of holding a public meeting must inform the police about the details of their planned meetings”. Warned Fred Enanga.

The police publicist adds that “Our country has now spent about 13 months without any violent protests and demonstrations.  And we want to reassure the public, especially the private and business sector, the education sector and the transport sector, that we shall not allow any act that are in breach of the prevailing peace and security, in the country to occur”.

“All our response teams are on standby and will respond swiftly targeting the perpetrators, instigators of violence, ring leaders, participants and those who may be funding such illegitimate plans of violence.  This is to ensure the rights of the majority of Ugandans to life, property, peace and safety are not disrupted by the perennial instigators of violence”.
