Moses Okwalinga, the CEO of the Uganda Law Society (ULS), has highlighted the need for the rule of law for international peace, security, and political stability in achieving economic and social development.
Okwalinga, while giving opening remarks at the ongoing Rule of Law and Reconciliation Boot Camp at Makerere on October 4, 2023, emphasised instilling the spirit of passion in the rule of law.
“When one gets away with abuse of law, many easily follow suit; without rule of law, there is total anarchy,” said Okwalinga.
He noted that the ULS is passionate about Rule of Law, which is why it has been partnering with different institutions of learning like Makerere Law, Uganda Christian University Law, the International University of Islamic University Law Society, and Cavendish University Law to instill the spirit and passion for Rule of Law among the students.
Participants thanked the ULS for organising the boot camp, stating that they hope to gain skills on how the youth can impact society and interest the government in protecting the state from conflict.
The ULS Legal Aid Project is the biggest legal aid service provider in Uganda, servicing about 9,000 people annually, including refugee settlements.
