The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Rukungiri District officials, has distributed over 8,480, 000 mosquito nets to the residents of Nyarushanje subcounty, Kisiizi parish, Hospital cell, on October 21, 2023.

The mosquito net distribution across the country is running under the theme “under the net, one per two people,”

Steven Bewayo Nsubuga the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), called upon all persons registered to pick their mosquito nets and use them effectively to avoid the spread of malaria.

“I urge the Village health teams (VHTs) to continue sensitizing the population on the effective usage of mosquito nets, since you are foot soldiers in your respective villages,” Nsubuga said.

Dr. Akasiima Mucunguzi, the District Health officer, and Edison Muhwezi, the Malaria focal person, led the entire district on the mobilisation and sensitization drive in the community during the net distribution drive.

“Sleep under mosquito-treated nets to have a malaria-free generation,” Dr. Mucunguzi said.

The Ministry of Health started the exercise across the country on May 9, 2023, and part of south-western Uganda on October 17, 2023, to October 26, 2023, with other districts like Kabale, Kisoro, Kanungu, Rubanda, Mpigi, and Rukiga benefiting from the programme so far.
