On Wednesday the 29th 2023,  Hon Mohammed Ssegirinya of Kawempe South and Hon Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West called for a press conference to address journalists about their ordeal at Kigo Prison where they were on remand for at least 15 months.

Journalists and viewers were shocked as the none of the top NUP leadership was present at the press conference.

According to Kabuye Innocent, one of the NUP councilors, the reason the top NUP leadership shunned away from the conference is because of guilt.

“These people were holding parties at Busabala beach every weekend and traveling abroad for holidays while their colleagues were in prison and they did nothing to secure their bail. They abandoned their colleagues in broad daylight. They are feeling guilty and they know if they showed up they would be booed by their own supporters,” Kabuye stated.

Ssegirinya and Sewanyana have been on remand at Kigo prison for charges of Murderattempted murder, and aiding and abetting terrorism.

During their press conference the legislators didn’t credit any NUP leader for helping out in the process to get them bail.

The duo who looked disappointed during the press release were appearing for the first time before journalist ever since they were released on February 13th 2023.

Sources in NUP revealed that the divide in the party has worsened since the duo was released from prison.
