The President of Uganda HE Yoweri K Museveni has over the past few months been engaged in Nationwide regional tours in which he has taken the opportunity to commission a number of projects such as roads and markets especially in upcountry municipalities.
Another development has been the launch of the National Backbone Infrastructure to West Nile and Now to the Karamoja and Eastern regions.
This will help improve communication and Information Technology in the regions and help fast track their movement into middle income earners at par with the rest of the country.
There however seems to exist an agenda among the Opposition to water down on the achievements of the President during this tenure with many of them opposing the supplementary budget that state house requested for to support this particular activity.
Now the same group of idle politicians and social media activists have come out strongly to label the Presidents initiative as Early Campaigns ahead of the 2021 general elections, something that would be against the Electoral commission laws.
First of all, the President is mandated and duty bound by the constitution to transverse and reach any part of the country at any time as his program deems fit.
It is absurd to assume that a President of the Country could be barred from visiting different parts of the country just because an election is upcoming. The President has always been Pro-People and has always made endeavors to be in touch with his people no matter where they are in the country. He is after all not just the President of Kampala but of the whole of Uganda.
Museveni has also always been a person of the people, consistently choosing to be in touch with the masses rather than be disconnected in the comfort of state house and national politics.
The fact that many national constituents have chosen to nominate the President for another term is testament to his loved rule.
All Ugandans are free to visit any part of the country at any time however those wishing to engage in politics and mobilization risk being in breach of electoral law and should perhaps wait for the Electoral Commission to roll out the campaign calendar to embark on such activities.
