Kampala City Marathon to Ignite Tourism, Attract Investment, and Promote Health in Uganda

The Minister of State for Education and Sports, Peter Ogwang, announced today that the government is gearing up to host the much-anticipated Kampala City Marathon. This exciting initiative has been specifically designed to bolster tourism, attract investments, and promote a healthier lifestyle among Ugandans.

During a press conference held at the Uganda Media Centre, Minister Ogwang elucidated the objectives behind organizing the marathon, which is scheduled to take place in December 2024.

“The Kampala City Marathon serves as a valuable tool to showcase Uganda’s rich socio-cultural heritage and economic potential,” Minister Ogwang stated, highlighting the key role the event will play in boosting the nation’s tourism sector.

In addition to its impact on tourism, the marathon aims to encourage physical activity and wellness among the population, aiding in the prevention of non-communicable diseases. Minister Ogwang emphasized the significance of embracing an active lifestyle

“Engaging in regular physical activity contributes to healthier lives and will have a lasting impact on our nation’s overall well-being,” said Ogwang.

Furthermore, the marathon is expected to act as a revenue-generating mechanism for the country, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Uganda’s economic prospects. Minister Ogwang expressed confidence in the event’s success, affirming that it will create lucrative opportunities in various sectors and foster economic growth.

The Kampala City Marathon will be generously funded by H.E. the President of Uganda, and supported by Golazo, a company renowned for organizing international marathons across the globe. With their vast experience and expertise, Golazo is set to ensure a smooth and remarkable event, demonstrating Uganda’s ability to host world-class sporting spectacles.

The marathon will commence and culminate at the Mandela National Stadium, promising a vibrant and captivating route that showcases the beauty and vibrancy of Uganda’s capital city, Kampala.

Preparations for the Kampala City Marathon are already underway, with strict adherence to international standards for participant safety and event organization. The organizing committee, in collaboration with government agencies, relevant stakeholders, and local communities, is committed to making this inaugural marathon an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators alike.

The marathon signifies Uganda’s resolute commitment to promoting health, and wellness, and its ever-growing potential as a remarkable global destination.
