On Thursday 16th February, during the 46th celebration to mark Janani Luwum Day in Wii-gweng Village, Mucwini Sub-county in Kitgum District, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni directed Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) to provide him with daily reports on cattle rides on civilians by Karamojong cattle rustlers  in Kitgum and Agago districts.

This directive follows an appeal by member of parliament for Chua East, Margaret Lamwaka about the continuous raids of animals and killing of civilians.

The President ordered the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello-Oryem, and the State Minister for Northern Uganda, Grace Freedom Kwiyocwiny, to conduct an immediate investigation into the continued cattle rustling by suspected Karamojong warriors  inside Acholi Sub-region.

“I am sorry to hear about the Karamojong warriors continuing to disturb this area. I now direct the RDCs, coordinated by Okello-Oryem and Kwiyocwiny. I want a detailed report about these raids, day-by-day, and please. When I talked to the army commander, he told me the incidents of raids were few, few incidents for what? Why?  We have the capacity to finish this nonsense, we have everything and nobody should be disturbing our people,” President Museveni said.

On February 16, the church of Uganda celebrates the death of it’s first archbishop, Archbishop Janani Luwum who was brutally murdered by Idi Amin’s regime in 1977.

This year’s celebration was marked under the theme “United for Service and Growth.”
