The Uganda police force has cleared the burial of the suspected collaborator of the Allied Democratic Force rebels who recently collapsed and died from the bathroom while in custody at the Special Investigative Unit-Kireka detention facility.

“This is to inform the public that the remains of one Muhonja Costa, an 80-year-old suspected ADF collaborator who died after collapsing in the bathroom while in custody at Kireka detention facility, were claimed by his family on February 15, 2023,” a police statement said.

According to the police, the deceased’s body was claimed by one Ezra Tindyebwa, who identified himself as his son.

The police revealed that it offered to help in the transportation of the body up to Kanyampara, the deceased’s village in Kasese district, and supported the burial arrangement with a coffin and food stuffs, among others.

The police also warned the public against kinship recruitment into terrorism, where armed terrorists lure relatives of their comrades to team up with them.

“As we handed over the remains, we warned the family and relatives against kinship recruitment into terrorism, where terrorists pay to recruit relatives of their operators, agents, and collaborators for continuity of their valued relationships,” the statement read.

According to the police, the terrorists opt for the recruitment of relatives because trust is already established and the risk of recruiting the wrong people is minimized.

“It is against this background that we have strongly warned the family and relatives,” the police said.

Police urged the public to remain vigilant and always report suspected individuals, stating that it’s the only way to eradicate criminality in the country.
