Parliament Insistence on Sittings Baffling

The Speaker of Parliament Rebbeca Kadaga has issued fresh guidelines on the conduct of seatings despite all other arms of government cutting down on work and adopting more innovative approaches to work.

The same Parliament yesterday held a sitting in an overcrowded chamber in complete disregard of public health guidelines by the Ministry of Health. It is as though parliamentarians are immune to the Covid-19 virus.

The speaker has also been lately engaged in an online spat with government spokesman Ofwono Opondo over a myriad of issues rather than concentrating on core issues at hand.

It’s among this same group that a number of MPs returned to the country and refused to be quarantined by the government and therefore may still pose a risk to themselves.

The MPs have also been bitter for not being an advanced role in the government effort to fight the virus. A section of the MPs have also said that they will only contribute to the Covid-19 fundraising after the have received money from government.

A number of Senators in Kenya’s Parliament have been reported to have tested positive for the virus. MPs have contact with people from around the country and therefore a spread of the virus in the house would have a far reaching repercussion for the country.
