In order to address the district’s growing unpaid water bills, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) branch in Kisoro has initiated an aggressive campaign to disconnect clients with outstanding payments of more than one month. The move comes as NWSC’s backlog of unpaid water bills approaches Shs500 million. Ariho Peter, the NWSC Area Manager, said that just 1,470 accounts routinely settle their bills on time out of the approximately 4,954 customers served by the Kisoro branch on a daily basis.
“We find ourselves between a rock and a hard place due to clients’ negligence to pay for water. Therefore, we have launched a massive campaign to disconnect accounts with outstanding bills beyond one month,” Ariho explained.
