Students of the National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership school have accused the institute leadership of poor management skills, financial constraints, and lecturers demanding sexual favors from the students.

The school is under the management of the party Secretary General, David Lewis Rubogonya, and Benjamin Katana, the treasurer who handles and runs the party’s finances.

According to sources, lecturers have been demanding sex in exchange for VISAs, job placements, and small pocket change. This has forced students to withdraw from the institute.

“Lecturers at the institute demand sex in exchange for small favors, and when you decline, they harass and even threaten to discontinue or report you to security authorities for being a suspected criminal,” the source said.

One of the victims of sexual harassment at the NUP leadership school who preferred anonymity revealed that she has been supporting the NUP party since the previous general elections of 2021; however, to her disappointment, the same people she highly respected are the ones who harassed her sexually.

Additionally, reports indicate that Katana, the institute treasurer, has been diverting the funds from the institute in preparation for his political career in 2026.

“It’s disappointing and alarming that a leading political party in Uganda that is desirous of changing the incumbent government has totally failed to manage a mere school with a total turn-up of less than 100 students,” the source noted.

Conversely, studies from Makerere University indicate that there are increasing reports of sexual assault among vulnerable and unsuspecting students from poor backgrounds in different education institutions. Most of these cases reported are performed by people of influence and power.

The opposition NUP party established a leadership school in Kamwokya, a Kampala suburb, with the major aim of teaching NUP ideology, political and constitutional history of Uganda, strategic perspectives of building a new Uganda, and an introduction to modern economics.
