The Uganda National Road Authority (UNRA) has announced upcoming maintenance works at the Mabira section along the Kampala Jinja highway following the deterioration of the road surface.

In the statement released by UNRA on November 22, 2024, it stated that remedial works to repair the damaged section will commence on November 23, 2024 and are expected to be completed by December 7, 2024.

“Traffic will be restricted to one lane during repairs and motorists are strongly advised to use the Mukono-kyetume-katosi-kisoga Njeru road as an alternative route,“ The statement reads in part.

The statement further highlighted that Traffic Police and the project safety team will be on-site to assist road users as required.

UNRA’s initiative to repair the road aims to enhance safety and improve travel conditions for users.

The Kampala-Jinja highway is a crucial route for trade and transportation in Uganda, linking the capital city to the eastern region. The deterioration of this road has raised safety concerns among motorists and transport operators.

These maintenance works represent a proactive step by UNRA to address infrastructure challenges on one of Uganda’s most vital highways, ensuring better service delivery for road users and supporting economic activities dependent on this route.
