It was a magic UEFA Champions League night for Napoli as they beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 on Wednesday night to reach the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time in their history and making it the third Italian team in the final eight.

Victor Osimhen continued his fine scoring record with a goal in each half and Piotr Zielinski converted a penalty in the second half as Napoli advanced 5-0 on aggregate.

It is the first time since 2006 that three Italian teams have progressed to the quarterfinals of Europe’s premier club competition.

Victor Osimhen became the first Napoli player to score in both legs of a UEFA Champions League knockout stage tie, while his brace in this game was the first scored by a Nigerian player in the knockout stages of the competition.

Thanks to last night’s victory over Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, Luciano Spalletti’s men are now the favorites to win the UEFA Champions League an achievement that would mark the club’s first ever appearance among Europe’s elite teams.

Napoli have enjoyed outstanding form all season long, dominating on a team and individual level both domestically and in Europe.

In Serie A, they are currently standing 18 points clear of second-placed Inter Milan thanks to an impressive 22-2-2season record. They boast the Serie A most lethal offense, and large credit is due to the league’s top goal scorer, the Nigerian Victor Osimhen, and his attacking partner, Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is leading the league in assists. What’s more, Napoli’s defense has proven the most solid in Serie A, conceding only 16 goals in 23 rounds.
