Mulago Hospital wants parliament to avail them with Shs16B for the completion of staff houses. The hospital directors appeared before the parliamentary committee on health chaired by the Koboko Municipal member of parliament Charles Ayume yesterday 11th Jan 2023 to table their request.

Dr Byanyima Rosemary the acting Executive Director of the hospital informed the committee of the need for accommodation of staff stating that the hospital realized accommodation was critical during the Covid 19 period.

“We are requesting for these funds in order to complete the staff houses so that we have more staff staying close to the facility,” Byanyima stated.

David Nuwamanya, the Principal Hospital Administrator said that currently they have 416 staff houses but only 100 are decent to live in.

“Currently we have 416 staff houses but the decent ones are only 100, the rest are old structures and others are wooden and the total requirement is about 1380 so we are so far away,” he said.

Members of Parliament on the health committee promised to push for the inclusion of the Shs16B in the next financial year.

However, the chairman of the committee Ayume demanded that a clear roadmap towards implementation of the construction project be availed before any decision is made.
