The Ministry of Health through the Munoonye HIV testing campaign is set to identify children and adolescents who are living with HIV but have not yet started treatment.

The communication was made by Dr. Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health on April 12, 2024, during the launch of the Munoonye HIV testing campaign supported by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) at the Ministry Head offices in Kampala.

According to Atwine, the campaign will target over 10,000 children in Uganda.

She noted that the campaign aims to identify the circumstances under which mother-to-child transmission of HIV is still in existence in communities.

“The 95% target of this campaign can only be achieved if efforts are doubled in identifying why there is still mother-to-child transmission of HIV in our communities and how that gap can be bridged,” Atwine said.

PEPFAR also known as the Emergency Plan, is a five-year bilateral commitment by the United States Government to support HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment programs in developing countries.
