The Minister of State for Microfinance, Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, has ordered the immediate arrest of two parish chiefs and the SACCO chairman from Onganyakoneye Parish and Kituba Parish in Kumi District for mismanagement of Emyooga funds.

He made the order during his visit to the Teso sub-region on October 25, 2023, when he was monitoring the performance of Emyooga and Parish Development Model programs.

Kasolo was in the company of the State Minister for Energy, Okaasai Opolot.

During his visit, Kasolo held meetings in two different locations, one in Kanyum County, Mukongoro Town Council, and another in Kumi County, Boma Ground, at district headquarters.

Kasolo urged the people of Kumi to use Emyooga funds to improve their household incomes and transition from subsistence to the money economy.

He also emphasised the need to have a saving-oriented mindset, pledging to work with relevant authorities to ensure easy access to financial services.

“The Emyooga programme is performing well in the Teso sub-region, and people’s lives are improving except for Kalaki district, whose performance is still low. With increased support, training, supervision, and monitoring, there is no doubt that this programme will deliver the expected results (improving livelihoods) and transition to the money economy,” Kasolo said.

The Minister previously visited the districts of Katakwi, Ngora, Amuria, Kaberamaido, Bukedea and Kalaki.

The State Minister for Energy, Hon. Okasai Sidonius, the MP Kumi County, RDC Kumi district Washaki Ahumada, CAO Roseline Kumi, LCV chairman Hon Elungat Nelson Mandela, DISO Kumi SIO Richard Asiandu, and DPC Kumi SP Twoaha Buyinza, among others, attended the meeting.
