The State Minister for Ministry of Works and Transport has this Saturday, May 6th, visited Hamurwa along Kabale-Kisoro Road to assess the progress of emergency restoration works currently taking place there.

The emergency restoration works followed serious cracks on the road and a bridge breakdown that were caused by landslides that occurred on Thursday this week as a result of heavy rains that caused half of the road to be washed away.

Minister Ecweru has echoed the government’s commitment to extend funds that amount to Ugx3 billion to enable the facilitation of emergency response to the affected roads and bridges in the Kigezi sub-region.

The construction works by the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) commenced on Thursday, and emergency works are still ongoing at the Hamurwa section to have the damaged part restored so that motorists can resume movement on the road.

The recent heavy rains have affected the state of numerous roads and bridges in the area.
