Luzira Prison Warder  Murdered by Wife During Domestic Dispute

In a tragic incident that occurred on Sunday, February 18, 2024, a Police Constable identified as Mercy Alowo was arrested for fatally stabbing her husband, Lance Corporal Warder Alfred Okori, during a domestic dispute at the Prison Academy and Training School in Luzira. The Uganda Prison Service confirmed the incident in a press statement on Monday.

According to Frank Baine Mayanja, the spokesperson for the Uganda Prison Service, the unfortunate incident took place at approximately 10 pm. Lance Corporal Okori was immediately rushed to the Luzira prison staff clinic for medical attention. However, despite the efforts made by the medical staff, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The body of the deceased was subsequently transferred to Mulago Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Mercy Alowo, a police constable with badge number 78965, comes from Tororo, while Lance Corporal Alfred Okori hailed from the Apac district.

Offering their condolences, the Commissioner General of Prisons and the prison fraternity expressed their sympathies to the family and friends of Lance Corporal Alfred. They prayed for his soul to rest in eternal peace.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing domestic disputes and finding peaceful resolutions to conflicts. The authorities will undoubtedly conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, in order to shed light on the causes and prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
