On Sunday, January 22, 2023, hundreds of local residents in Luwero District held a thanksgiving ceremony at the Kikyusa Town Council playground ahead of the 37th Liberation Day celebration.

Patricia Magara, the Luwero district chairperson of the NRM women’s league, commended those who sacrificed their lives to liberate Uganda. She also encouraged the residents to work hard and involve themselves in agriculture.

“We should involve ourselves in agriculture, not only subsistence agriculture but commercial agriculture, like President Museveni encourages us,” Magara said.

The government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo, confirmed that this year’s liberation day shall be held in Kakumiro district on January 26th, and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be the chief guest.

This year’s celebration will be held under the theme, “Our Resolute Efforts to Transform Uganda is a Promise We Shall Fulfill.”

The National Liberation Day held on January 26 every year marks the overthrow of the previous government by the National Resistance Movement on this day in 1986.
