The former patron of Boda Boda 2010 Association has been convicted to prison for 8 years on charges of unlawful possession of firearms, a thing that has sparked Celebrations among his victims but left the relatives in rage claiming that it was an unfair trial.

The victims of Kitatta’s crimes are celebrating the fact that Kitatta is behind bars and some wish he should have been sentenced to even more years to match the magnitude of the crimes he committed against them. However his relatives through his lawyer Shaban Sanywa vowed to appeal claiming that the trial was unfair.

A prominent Human Rights Lawyer Nicholas Opiyo said that he doesnot blame kitatta alone for his crimes because he was being used. However, Opiyo says that Kitatta deserves the sentence for violating the law and causing pain to many victims. “Kitatta’s
prosecution was merely possessing a gun but not the crimes such as torture and killings which leaves many victims unsatisfied and yearning for justice, ” he said.

Fdc vice president for eastern region, proscovia Salaamu Musumba also reacted to kitattta’s sentence and said that she may not determine whether punishment is lenient or harsh but the damage kitata caused on society is long term.

Meanwhile, the relatives remain unconvinced and are so bitter about the outcome of the sentence and consider it unfair with some urging that Kitatta was a cadre who was working to protect the interests of the Government and will stop at nothing but appeal against the sentence.

However, the head of court Martial Lt. Gen. Gutti said that no one
is above the law and gave Kitatta a chance to appeal within 14 days if he is unsatisfied with the judgement.
