Joe Walker and his colleagues kissed the ground of Namutumba district in Uganda’s eastern region this morning, February 9, 2023, where they witnessed a hit-and-run accident.

A passenger service vehicle (Taxi) UBA 467V, carrying passengers from Mbale to Kampala knocked down an unidentified boda boda rider and did not stop .

According to Raymond, an eyewitness, the taxi driver did not stop even after injuring the boda boda man in an accident.

“The victim was rushed to the hospital by his fellows for medication, and we hope he will survive because he was not severely injured and no death occurred,” he said.

Joe Walker condemned the bad behavior of taxi drivers who flee after causing accidents, claiming that they, too, have no idea what will happen as they travel.

“We need humanity and professionalism on the road because today it’s me and tomorrow it’ll be you or someone else, and that’s what the walk is about,” he stated.

The local police have not yet commented, but they are expected to do so after the investigations are completed.

It has been four days since Joe Walker and other Ugandans set off from Kampala to Mbale to raise road safety awareness among the country’s road users, primarily drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
