Govt. Purchases Heavy Earth Equipment

In line with the Agricultural Sector Agro- Industrialization Development Programme (NDP iii) to enhance agricultural production and productivity, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) has procured assorted heavy earth moving equipment.

This investment is set to revive the agricultural mechanization in the country as a key strategy for supporting farmers and processors.

The equipment has been procured to enhance agricultural mechanization services through bush clearing, land opening, plowing, agro-processing, value addition, and support to farm structures development.

It comprised 15 bulldozers, 18hydraulic excavators, 2 chain loaders, 5-wheel loaders, 5 motor graders, 3 vibrating rollers, 10 water bowser/ tankers, and 3 mobile workshop vans, 2 hydraulic drilling wings, 2 low bed carriers, and 7 dump trucks.

The available heavy earth moving equipment is set to develop infrastructure, increase access to Water for Agricultural Production as well as constructing farm access roads, Dam construction, Valley tank rehabilitation, Fish Ponds construction, Construction of irrigation canals, and Construction of aquaculture facilities.

In Uganda, agriculture is a major source of livelihood and under the national development plan iii, agro industrialization will enable Uganda to embark on its long-term aspiration of increasing household incomes and improving the quality of life.
