Fuel Tank Catches Fire on Masanafu-Busega Northern By-pass, Police Investigate

The territorial Police at Natete, is currently investigating an incident in which a fuel tanker, registration number KBL 022A and ZD 3482, caught fire on the Masanafu-Busega Northern By-pass.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson said that the incident happened on October 18, 2023, at approximately 16:04 hrs.

According to Owoyesigire, the Police in collaboration with the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services, swiftly responded to the scene.

He identified the driver of the fuel tanker as Ismail Umar, a 27 year-old Kenyan national.

“The Fire and Rescue Services team has managed to contain the fire, and efforts are ongoing to fully extinguish it,” Owoyesigire said.

He added that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined and that dedicated officers responded promptly to the scene.

He reassured road users who depend on the by-pass that one lane is currently open and usable for motorists, ensuring minimal disruption.

Investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire are being conducted thoroughly and the police will communicate its findings in due course.
