🇺🇬 NRM Caucus to discuss Anti- Homosexuality Bill 2023
📌The NRM Chief Whip, Hon Hamson Obua has called the NRM Parliamentary Caucus meeting which he says will discuss among others, the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023 that was passed by Parliament last month. According to a statement released Tuesday April 18, the MPs are required to do a Covid-19 test as a prerequisite to attending the meeting.
🇺🇬 Government releases Shs26 Billion for road maintenance in districts, cities
📌Government has released Shs 26.1 billion for road maintenance works in districts, cities and municipalities for the fourth quarter of the 2022/23 financial year.
A circular issued by the Uganda Road Fund on April 17, 2023 indicates that Shs 16.4 billion has been sent to 135 districts, town councils and their sub counties, Shs3.3 billion goes to 10 cities, while Shs6.4 billion goes to 31 municipalities, bringing the total amount to Shs26.1 billion.
🇺🇬 Minister Nandutu hands self to Police
📌The Minister of State for Karamoja Affairs Hon. Agnes Nandutu Tuesday handed self over to Police investigating the misappropriation of Government properties. She is currently detained at the Criminal Investigations Directorate in Kibuli where she is facing interrogations over skipping Police summons before being arraigned in Court. Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga Monday warned Nandutu over ignoring Police summons when called upon for an inquiry on the misappropriation of Karamoja iron sheets.
🇺🇬 JINJA: Six remanded to Kirinya Prison over homosexuality and gross indecency
📌The six youths who were captured in a homosexual video in Jinja District have been denied bail due to lack of letters of support from their village councils that would help courts obtain authentic information about their places of abode. The accused persons; Geoffrey Ibanda, Sadic Wassajja, Sadat Kamya, Fabian Kalungi, Hamza Katamba and Brian Kiiza were arrested for allegedly involving themselves in acts of indecency and gross indecency. They have been further remanded to Kirinya Prison until May 10, 2023 for their bail hearing.
🇺🇬 KABALE: Businessman killed with machetes
📌Police in the Kabale district are hunting unknown assailants who waylaid a businessman at night and cut him to death on his way from a bar. The Kigezi regional police spokesperson, Elly Maate identified the deceased as Livingston Mbabazi, 48, a resident of Kyerero Cell, Maziba sub-county. Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased might have had an unspecified amount of money which the attacker wanted.
🇺🇬 OBONGI: Health Ministry procures boat ambulance
📌The Ministry of Health has procured a water boat ambulance for Obongi District to improve emergency medical responses in the area. Ms Maria Nkalubo, an official with the Emergency Medical Services at the Ministry of Health said that the water boat ambulance is part of the overall plan by the Ministry to establish a well-coordinated emergency medical service system in the country.
🇺🇬 TORORO: Parents storm head teachers’ office over absenteeism
📌Parents and local leaders of Kayoro sub-county in Tororo District have stormed Bukedi Seed Secondary School accusing the head teacher of mismanagement of office. Parents say the school head has been an absentee and only appears at school to withdraw money which they say has led to low enrollment and poor performance.
🇺🇬 MUKONO: District leadership to cancel land titles in wetlands
📌The Mukono District Vice Chairperson, Asuman Muhumuza has castigated individuals who degrade wetlands and settling at lake shores. Muhumuza sounded the warning Monday while monitoring the state of wetlands at Mpatta and Mpunge in Ntenjeru Sub County. Muhumuza assured them that authorities would cancel all titles for the culprits.
🇺🇬 AMOLATAR: Community receives new borehole
📌Leaders in Adonyimo Parish have handed over a newly drilled borehole to the community. The project will benefit the community of Aburitigo Village in Opali Sub-county to address water issues. The residents have been walking up to the Lake Shore of Kwania, about 2.3 km at Agweng Landing Site and 3 km to Ading borehole. The office of RDC commended the community for donating land for development.
🇺🇬 LUBAGA: Truck rams into boda bodas at Masanafu traffic lights, kills one
📌A Fuso truck registration Number UBF 375H has rammed into vehicles and boda bodas at Masanafu Traffic lights, killing one boda-boda rider on spot and seriously injuring eight others. Eye witnesses say that the speeding vehicle carrying bags of maize, knocked six motorcycles at Masanafu along the Kampala Northern Bypass Expressway and veered off into the swamp. According to Traffic Police Spokesperson ASP Faridah Nampiima, the deceased was identified as Innocent Taremwa, a resident of Kamwokya, a Kampala suburb. His body was taken to Mulago Hospital.
🇺🇬 IGANGA: SACCO registers success stories on Emyooga funds
📌Iganga Municipality Council Tailoring Emyooga Sacco has received 30 tailoring machines, a photocopying machine, and a computer from the Emyooga program in addition to the funds received. Namaganda Florence, the treasurer, says xplained that their Sacco now has capacity to lend over 10 Million to the members at small interest rate.

📌Ojilai sub county less privileged people have received 350 kg of maize seeds as donation from the area MP Dr. Otala Emmanuel of West Budama South constituency. Dr. Otala says he decided to contribute after pleas by the locals about the surging cases of hunger.

📌UNRA has embarked on the maintenance of Kadanya – Omiriai road in Kalait sub county in Tororo District. Residents have applauded the Government for enabling them to transport their agricultural products to the neighbouring markets.

📌The Azimio la Umoja coalition has announced that they will not be participating in any parliamentary processes regarding the bipartisan talks, claiming that Kenya Kwanza has shown a lack of transparency. Kalonzo Musyoka Tuesday said they now want out of Parliament talks since Kenya Kwanza has shown no intention to hold honest dialogues.
🌍 Regional Force denies claims of clash between M23 and Burundi troops
📌The East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) has denied claims of fresh clashes between the M23 rebels and Burundi forces. While addressing a press briefing in Goma, EACRF Commander Maj-Gen Jeff Nyagah expressed that for the last one month, there have been no clashes reported between the Democratic Forces for The Liberation of Rwanda (FDRL) and the M23.
🌍 Sudan health system at risk of collapse – Red Cross
📌The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has warned that if fighting continues much longer, the Sudanese health system will almost go into a collapse. It said that it was nearly impossible to provide humanitarian aid in and around the capital Khartoum. The IFRC’s head of delegation for Sudan, Farid Aiywar, told reporters on Tuesday that there were calls from organisations and people trapped in the city asking for evacuation.
