πŸ“ŒPresident Yoweri Museveni has called on participants from member countries of the South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTrC) to work together to create universal prosperity for all of their people. President Museveni made the call during the closure of a three-day SSTrC at Speke Resort Munyonyo. SSTrC is an international agreement and UN General Assembly resolution that the Member States of the United Nations have mandated for development and humanitarian programming. In his remarks, the President disclosed that in order to achieve global affluence, member states need to support each other by creating a sustainable market for their goods and services.

πŸ“ŒMakerere University is the 13th among Africa’s best universities, according to the latest webometrics rankings and top-most outside of South Africa and Egypt. Kampala International University and Mbarara University of Science and Technology came in second and third positions respectively in Uganda, followed by Kyambogo and Gulu universities. The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of the cybermetrics lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior De Investigaciones CientΓ­ficas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ MITOOMA: Hailstorm devastates four parishes in Mutara Sub County
πŸ“ŒHailstorm has caused destruction in four parishes in Mutara sub county in Mitooma District. The affected areas are Kitaho, Ryakitanga, Bikungu, and Enshaka parishes. The hailstorm that hit the area claimed several acres of banana and coffee plantation, animals including cows, goats and gardens of beans, maize and sweet potatoes. Naboth Mbyeyongera, a resident of Kataho Village in Kataho parish says that the hailstorm started at around 3PM and lasted for four hours. According to Mbyeyongera, he lost one cow and six goats while his neighbor lost 3 cows to the hailstorm.Β A group of residents led by the area LC V councilor, Bernard Mbangira collected some of the hailstones and stormed the sub-county headquarters to plead for help.

Ozelle mobilized parents to embrace vocational skills education. πŸ“ŒPolice in Mityana on Wednesday started investigations into the circumstances under which a one-year-old baby girl was dumped in a pit latrine by unknown people. Police retrieved the girl alive from the pit latrine in Ssekanyonyi village. She was taken to Ssekanyonyi Health Center III for medical care.

πŸ“ŒPolice officers on Wednesday rescued an unconscious suspected thief from a charged mob in Kyengera Town Council. The Residents of Kazinga Cell in Kasenge ward, rounded up the thief and beat himΒ  almost to death. The police officers from Kazinga Police Post them took him to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment.

🌍 Report pins South Sudan and Somalia the most corrupt countries in the world
πŸ“ŒAccording to the 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), Somalia is the most corrupt country, with South Sudan and Syria at number two. The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories around the world based on their perceived levels of public sector corruption, scoring on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (least corrupt). The report says that most countries have failed to stop corruption, with 95 per cent of them having made little to no progress since 2017. The investigative report has named Denmark as the least corrupt country globally, followed by Finland and New Zealand, both of which tie at position two.
β€œIn democratic societies, the people can raise their voices to help root out corruption and demand a safer world for us all,” said Transparency International Chief Executive Officer Daniel Eriksson.

🌍 SOMALIA: East African leaders vow to β€˜destroy’ Al-Shabaab
πŸ“ŒEast African Regional leaders meeting in Somalia have agreed on a joint offensive operation against Islamist militant group Al-Shabab. The ‘search and destroy’ operation will boost the momentum built up by Government forces who have made huge gains over the past few months, including recovering territory controlled by the Al Qaeda-affiliated group.
“The time-sensitive campaign will prevent any future infiltrating elements in the region,” said the communique signed by the leaders of Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya.

🌍 CAMEROON: Ex-Defense Minister jailed for corruption
πŸ“ŒA Court in Cameroon has sentenced a former Defence Minister to 30 years in prison for embezzling nearly $40m (Β£32m). Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo’o was accused of inflating contracts to buy military equipment from Brazil. His wife, Bernadette, was also found guilty of embezzlement and was handed a 10-year sentence. The Court decided to seize many of the defendants’ assets, including luxury cars, houses and land titles.

🌍 Zambians to face fines for using phones while crossing roads
πŸ“ŒThe authorities in Zambia have passed a law that prohibits pedestrians from crossing the road while wearing headsets or talking on a mobile phone. A person who contravenes this regulation commits an offence and is liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding 1,000 kwacha ($16; Β£12), according to a clause in the new law.
β€œAccording to our analysis, over 50% of people that die from road traffic accidents are pedestrians. And in most cases, the pedestrians may not have used the roads correctly”, a source said.
