Central Broadcasting Service (CBS), a Buganda Kingdom radio station, has come under fire from Dr. Besigye, who is accusing it of sabotage and malice for failing to invite him for a political talk show and fronting only NRM talk shows.

“Our voices that are supposed to educate people have been silenced by your own radio station, CBS. When was the last time they hosted me and NUP people?  The radio station is even operating without a license, imagine Buganda Kingdom is conniving with the regime to deny us space on their radio station,” said Besigye.

According to Hon. Abed Bwanika, Dr. Besigye’s claims are far-fetched, as are those of his NUP party colleagues, who have accused CBS radio station of hosting him and depriving their party president space for on talk shows.

“Dr. Besigye and Kyagulanyi’s supporters enjoy badmouthing the Kingdom, and as leaders, they accuse it of sabotage. I am hosted, and I normally air out my dissatisfaction about the government and so do my other opposition colleagues in NUP,” Bwanika said.

Dr. Besigye claims that he wants Buganda Kingdom to treat them equally rather than victimizing opposition politicians.

“Buganda Kingdom should snub working with the regime and work with us to cause regime change; what affects us affects them,” said Besigye.

However, CBS has come out to deny these allegations, stating that it does not participate in partisan politics and gives all political parties equal opportunities. According to the Bulange-based radio station, the Kingdom is also not involved in partisan politics.

“Buganda Kingdom is abiding by the constitution by keeping away from partisan politics,” a statement read.

According to the Ugandan constitution, ‘A person shall not, while remaining a traditional leader or cultural leader, join or participate in partisan politics.’
