Kirya Ismail, the President of the Young Democrats, while speaking at the Democratic Party (DP) offices at City House yesterday afternoon, praised the President and Gen. Muhoozi for the timeliness and responsibility taken towards the repatriation of Ugandans from Sudan, which is experiencing war at the time.

“President Museveni has shown a very good gesture and responsibility by directing Ugandan authorities to rescue the Ugandans who were stranded in Sudan since the fighting broke out in the country. He is a real and true Pan-African, a good leader who cares about his citizens, especially at a critical time like this, not concentrating on diplomats and senior officials but other vulnerable Ugandans like students and traders too,” Kirya said.

On Wednesday 26th April 2023, the Advisor on Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, oversaw the safe evacuation of citizens from the war-torn Sudan and welcomed home 211 Ugandans who were living and working in Sudan successfully aboard Uganda Airlines.

The total number of Ugandans in Sudan was 300, and Gen. Muhoozi promised that the other group would return home soon as well.

“We thank the almighty God for bringing you back, and we are very delighted to see you all. The government is putting into place plans to bring back home other people that are still in Sudan,” Gen. Muhoozi stated.

H.E. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu, the Ambassador of Uganda to Sudan, appreciated President Museveni and the government for all the efforts made to ensure that Ugandans were evacuated from Bahir Dar Airport in Ethiopia.

“I appreciate President Museveni and the government for all the efforts made to have these teams back home: 18 who were working at the Uganda embassy, 19 who were in transit going to Mecca, 120 students at Africa International University, another 120 who are working in Khartoum, and a few who were on a short visit,” stated Ssemuddu.

Many people, including members of Parliament, evacuees, and the general public, have praised Uganda’s President, YK Museveni, the Senior Presidential Adviser on Special Operations, Muhoozi Kainerugaba and the SFC for their role in rescuing Ugandans in Sudan.
