The President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Wednesday urged people of Acholi to reject leaders who are going over radio talk shows politicizing the Apaa land wrangles with the intention of paralyzing development.

He was addressing leaders from Acholi sub-region at National Teachers College Unyama Grounds, in Gulu Municipality as part of his countrywide wealth creation tour.

The President`s discussion with the leaders mainly focused on how to improve the livelihood of the people.

“As leaders, it is sacrilegious to look on, as the people we lead stumble in poverty,” the President said.

The President noted that average land holding in Gulu is 7 acres per household and that with this kind of land holding, people should adopt the four-acre model of commercial farming.

He urged leaders to focus on improving homestead income of individuals. He also appealed to homesteads to install solar power or construct underground water tanks for those far from water source.

Museveni gave an example of Western part of the country who embraced the Government`s message to abandon nomadic lifestyle and traditional dairy farming but adopted modern methods of cattle keeping from which they are now reaping improved milk yields which have greatly improved their income.

He assured them of Government support through grants from the various initiatives already running like OWC, Youth fund, Women Fund, PWD fund and others.

Acholi sub-region leaders used the platform to endorse President Museveni as a sole candidate for NRM flag in 2021 general elections.
