Dr. Eunice Apio Otuko, the Oyam North Member of Parliament-elect, has contested and branded the story circulating on social media that she was attacked and battered as fake, urging the public not to trust the false news.

“Please disregard the false news circulating that I was attacked and injured; I am well and have since embarked on preparations to represent the people of Oyam North. This is the last piece of news the people of Oyam North would wish to receive. It does not help the growth of our young democracy,” the MP-elect stated.

This was in response to social media news yesterday, July 11th, 2023, that was swamped with a bogus picture of a seriously injured person claiming it was Dr. Apio, who was attacked and in critical condition after winning the recently finished by-election in Oyam North.
“UPC Oyam, a recent elected member of parliament attacked by NRM hooligans, more news to come in,” read the caption on the picture.

Uganda Police, via its Twitter account, explained that the widely shared image and captions were fraudulent and urged the public against sharing and disseminating such false information.

“Disregard social media claims about an attack on Oyam North’s recently elected MP, Eunice Apio Otuku; the information is inaccurate and unreliable,” read the tweet.

Dr. Euncie thanked the people who took the trouble to reach out to her and establish the truth, expressed their concern upon getting the regrettable false news, and all those who wished her well and congratulated her upon her victory.
