Chinese Man Arrested for BLQ Sports Fraud

The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) has today, June 23, 2023, arrested a 43-year-old Chinese resident of UCB Zone in Bukoto 1, Nakawa Division in Kampala, for fraud in relation to Acclaim BLQ Sports SMC.

Yinghe Chen was arrested following an inter-agency investigation by the National Cyber Task Force, which comprises CID, Crime Intelligence, ISO, ESO, CMI, the Bank of Uganda, NIRA, NITA Uganda, and the Uganda Banker Association, to mention but a few.

According to the Deputy Spokesperson of Police, CP Polly Namaye, this brings the number of people arrested in relation to this fraud to five.

“On May 11, 2023, Police arrested Awori Mary, the wife of Mr. Yinghe Chen and the registered Director of Acclaim BLQ Sports SMC. On June 12, 2023, police arrested Akoth Justine Oboth, Achola Mary, and Biira Shamim, and these four suspects were all produced in court,” CP Namaye said.

She added that the Directorate of CID is working closely with the DPP to ensure that Chen is produced to court, noting that the police take such public-interest cases very seriously.

According to Namaye, the estimated number of victims stands at 6,000 Ugandans, with losses of over 4.5 billion shillings.

Acclaim BLQ Sports SMC operated under the slogan “You lose, You win,” which is believed to have attracted many people to the online betting company.
