Security operatives are holding two agents of the Allied Democratic Force after they were arrested while conducting surveillance on a police station in Kamwenge District.

SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, confirmed this during the weekly security brief at Naguru on Monday, January 2, 2023, that the suspects were arrested by the security while on a mission to spy on one of the police stations located in the Rwamwanja refugee settlement for possible raids.

According to SCP Enanga, the suspected terrorists had the intention of carrying out an attack on that police post.

“The two suspected agents of the ADF were spying on the police post in the Rwamwanja refugee settlement. They are suspected to be among the rebel collaborators in the western region that have been furnishing intelligence to their counterparts in eastern DRC,” he said.

He said that the suspects were handed over to the UPDF Mountain Division headquarters and are currently under custody as investigations are ongoing.

Enanga revealed that the arrest of the suspects will help them acquire more information pertaining to rebel activities.

UPDF soldiers recently killed over 26 ADF fighters and captured some 22 when they crossed from the DR Congo through the River Semiliki into Uganda and attempted to raid Ntoroko district.

In November last year, security agencies in Uganda announced an intelligence mobilization with the aim of targeting suspected saboteur groups behind several attacks on police and police stations in the country.

By the end of 2022, security had managed to put out of action over 30 rebels, and more than 40 were arrested in connection with rebel activities and attacks on police.
