More arrests of Rwandan citizens who had illegally crossed into Uganda with suspicious items including grenades and firearms have raised a dark cloud over talks between Uganda and Rwanda.

The arrests came on the same day Uganda government released a number of Rwandese citizens and handed them over to authorities. The group had been held in Uganda over suspicious activity.

The death of a one Kizito Mihigo, a popular Rwandan musician in custody in Rwanda has also raised alarm in the media with the shock at the deplorable human rights record in Rwanda raising fears among citizens who are being repatriated to the country.

Kizito was arrested while trying to escape from Rwanda to Burundi seeking political asylum and authorities claimed that he had committed suicide with bedsheets given to him in the holding cell.

This latest development now seems to overshadow talks that are scheduled to be held between President, General Yoweri Museveni of the Republic of Uganda and Paul Kagame of Rwanda at Gatuna border point in Kabale district.

Many activists have called upon Ugandan authorities to abandon the talks in solidarity against the gross human rights abuses in the country.
