The High Court in Kampala has today dismissed the bail application filed by Dr. Kizza Besigye challenging the Buganda road Chief Magistrate Court’s decision denying him bail.

The High Court Judge Hon. Tadeo Asiimwe dismissed the application citing possible sabotage of court hierarchy. The Judge directed Besigye to resubmit the bail application to the Magistrates Courts.

Hon. Tadeo Asiimwe further explained that whereas the High Court has unlimited Jurisdiction over capital offenses, it also has appellate jurisdiction over appeals from the Magistrates Courts’ decisions.

He therefore advised Dr. Besigye to utilize and make good use of the Magistrates Courts before appealing to the High Court.

Besigye is currently remanded at Luzira prison.

Dr. Kizza Besigye together with his Co-accused Samuel Lubega Makaaku were arrested on 14th June 2022, in the City center for organizing unlawful protests. They were taken to Buganda road Chief Magistrates Court and charged with inciting violence.
