It is a well-lit and bright day in the Roman Catholic Church, Kampala Archdiocese. Today they receive the new Archbishop Most. Rev. Paul Semogerere. It is a New dawn.
He succeeds the late Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga following his death on April 3, 2021. The Installation happened at Lubaga Cathedral at 10:30 am and was installed by Papal Nuncio Bianco along with many witnesses from the different parts of the country and the world.
Paul Semogerere was born 30 June 1956 is a Roman Catholic Bishop who was appointed as the archbishop of Kampala Archdioceses on 9th December 2021. Prior to his appointment, he was the Bishop of Kasana Diocese, Luweero District from 23rd August 2008 to 8th April 2021 when he was appointed as an Administrator of Kampala Archdiocese by Pope Francis after the sudden death of DR. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga the Archbishop of Kampala. He has also served the Roman Catholic Church in different capacities. Semogerere was elevated to Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese by Pope Francis on Thursday 9 December 2021.
He has been described as open-minded, sincere, and with a high level of integrity by different people. The Catholic community is optimistic that he will continue making Kampala Archdiocese. His experience and humility make him the best person for the position to strengthen the Catholic faith in the Archdiocese.
Below is an extract from the Papal Bull of His Appointment which was read to the Brethrens affirming the appointment from Pope.
“Having already obtained the merits and the governance of the Diocese of Kasana Luweero, you have many pastoral and human qualities together with a competency that make you worthy to accomplish this ministry according to the heart of Jesus who is the source of our evangelization.
For this reason, after consultation with the completion of the evangelization of peoples, by apostolic authority, we separate you from the diocese, where you have been, and we appoint you, Metropolitan Archbishop of Kampala, with its due rights and duties.
We cordially receive you as our beloved Father and venerable Master and we ask you to inform our decision to the clergy and the people of this ecclesiastical community.
In assuming this new office, Venerable Brother, take care with the help of God, to benefit the Brethren, so that the faithful entrusted to you may have Christ who redeemed us from the darkness, as it’s the strength and the praise through the example of your charity and justice”
After His installation, the Most. Rev. Archbishop Paul received the appointment, “with faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and with the love of God in my heart I accept the pastoral care with people of God in the Archdiocese of Kampala entrusted to me in stewardship. I resolve to serve faithful the church in this archdiocese.”
