Hon Mary Kitutu is addressing the media about what was discussed at the United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Poland from 2nd -15th December 2018.

The 2018 UN Climate Change Conference took place from 2nd-14th December. The aim was to launch countries of the World into a range of actions towards climate change. They include; ensuring the Rule Book to guide implementation of the Paris Agreement is put in place.

The Conference also had the aim of taking further the next level of ambition needed to tackle global warming & put the world on a safer & more prosperous development path in light of the 2° C temperature rise.

Parties agreed on a detailed transparency framework that sets out how countries will provide information about their national action plans, including the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as mitigation & adaptation measures.

On pre-2020 ambition, the rules emphasise that the enhanced ambition can lay a solid foundation for enhanced post 2020 ambition; & welcomes the 2018 stocktake on pre-2020 implementing. It reiterates it’s decisions to convene another stock take at its 25th session.

Katowice Climate Conference paved the way for the new phase, focusing on the implementation of our low-carbon & climate-resilient plans & advancing progress towards the implementation of the Paris Agreement. This gives us a strong basis for concrete climate actions.
