The top secretariat leadership of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), led by Richard Todwong, the Secretary General of the NRM, has met Members of Parliament (MPs) from Busoga and Lango subregions to prepare for grassroots mobilizations, with the aim of seeking public views on issues affecting them.

The meeting was held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the NRM headquarters in Kampala in anticipation of major grass-roots mobilization tours that will begin next week.

Todwong said that the mobilization aims to address the people’s concerns directly and focus on the progress of the manifesto implementation to engage people’s representatives on the issues affecting them.

“We prioritize engaging MPs and leaders before moving into their regions to hear their input and inform them of our plans. In Busoga, sugarcane farmers and fishing communities have raised issues about strict enforcement by the Fisheries Protection Unit and the challenges with wetland cultivation. The mobilization aims to address these concerns directly. We will engage directly with the people and work together to resolve these issues,” Todwong said.

He commended the regional whips for their cooperation and emphasized the significance of compiling success stories from government initiatives aimed at alleviating poverty, such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, among others.

Todwong, however, noted that the campaign will expand to other regions, focusing on strengthening the NRM’s grassroots presence and addressing community concerns.

According to Denis Hamson Obua, the government’s Chief Whip, service delivery will be prioritized during the mobilization to address local complaints and enhance project implementation ahead of the next elections.

“I implore locals to turn up in big numbers to the meetings with the Secretariat’s leadership to raise their concerns,” Obua emphasized.

Additionally, he stated that the fishermen and sugar cane growers within the two sub-regions will have an opportunity to interact with the party leaders directly to find lasting solutions.

The meeting was attended by the NRM National Treasurer, Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo; Deputy National Treasurer, Jacqueline Kyatuheire; Chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi; Deputy Chairman, John Alimper Kigyaagi; Commissioner Jane Alisemeera Babiiha; Director of Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Dombo; Director of Finance and Administration, Hajjat Medina Naham Ojale; and Director of External Affairs, Major Awich Pollar.
