The National Unity Platform Party (NUP leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, has confirmed that the Buganda kingdom and His Royal Highness, the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, aren’t their priorities in the struggle to remove President Museveni.

Bobi Wine said right now that he has no time to either participate in or attend any activities of Mengo regarding the current illness of Kabaka Mutebi until he is done with the ongoing country tour.

Bobi Wine, while touring western Uganda, told his supporters at a rally in Bundibugyo that he will not get involved in Kabaka and kingdom issues because Buganda is currently dealing with several issues that will not only harm his political career but also impede it.

“My colleagues and supporters are asking me what I am going to do about the mess in Mengo-Bulange. I will tell you what I have been telling them: The Kabaka and Buganda are not my main priorities now; I will see to that after my nationwide tours,” said Bobi Wine.

These remarks were echoed by his emissary, Fred Nyanzi, the NUP Kunga mobilizer, during a meeting held to launch the NUP parish committees from Salama, Kibuye, Luwafu, and Katwe parishes on July 14, 2024, in Makindye division.

According to Nyanzi, who presided over the meeting, plans to organize demonstrations to demand the return of Kabaka from Namibia will have to wait until the nationwide tours are over.

Mubarak Munyagwa, a political analyst, has refuted Bobi Wine’s claims that Kabaka is not a priority in his political career.

According to Munyagwa, Bobi Wine, having failed to use Buganda and the Kabaka for political gain by inciting Buganda into protests, has now resorted to cheap politics.

Munyagwa added that the Kingdom refused and issued a stunning warning against people using the Kabaka as a stepping stone to further their political careers.

“Can’t Bobi Wine just be real for once? After failing to use Kabaka’s case to spark off protests in Kampala to change government, he has become so shameless as to declare that Kabaka is no longer a priority?” Munyagwa said.

Opposition political parties have always tried to pull the Kabaka and the Kingdom into their politics; however, the kingdom has always remained steady and repelled any persons that try to align with it for political gain.
