US President Joe Biden and China’s President Xi Jinping have agreed to have direct communication or a presidential hotline between the two superpowers.

This was after a four-hour summit meeting held in San Francisco between the two presidents.

“I value the conversation I had with Xi today because I think it’s paramount that we understand each other clearly,” said Biden.

He added that there are critical global challenges that demand their joint leadership.

“We shall have clear and open communication between our defence establishments, which is vital to avoid miscalculation by either side and conflict.”

“The world expects this from responsible countries,” Biden added.

Joe Biden said that after several months of diplomatic efforts between the two nations, they have expanded on the foundation and achieved significant advancements.

Mr. Biden praised Mr. Xi for being straightforward and having productive discussions, despite the significant differences between the two.

President Biden also mentioned that, in an effort to reduce escalating tensions, the US and China have decided to restart military-to-military communications again.

“We are back to direct, open, and clear communications,” he declared on Wednesday after their special encounter with Chinese President Xi Jinping in California.

It was the first time the two presidents met in person after a year of accumulated tension between the two superpower countries.
