The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has received 3000 trees from the National Forest Authority (NFA) in a bid to foster environmental conservation under the Green-Guard Campaign.
According to the URA Public and Corporate Affairs Manager Robert Wamala Lumanyika, the trees were handed over by Mercy Nampulira, the forest supervisor at NFA.
In her handover speech, Nampulira said that it is the responsibility of the NFA to ensure the protection, maintenance, and restoration of Uganda’s forest cover.
“I am handing over these trees to ensure the protection of the environment. Besides, some of the tree species here are medicinal and will protect Uganda’s population from dangerous illnesses like cancer,” Nampulira said.
She implored URA to ensure that all the trees obtained are planted and carefully looked after if the National Development Plan (NDPIII) environmental goals are to be achieved.
Lumanyika said that the trees are a boost to the ongoing Green-Guard Campaign that the URA started two months ago, focused on environment protection and conservation.
