The Uganda Police Forensic Laboratory has finally received authorization from the Ministry of Health to do forensic DNA testing after fulfilling the requisite standards.
When speaking to the media, Enanga remarked, “The approval of the Forensic DNA Lab is a big and important step in significantly enhancing the investigative abilities of the police and also plays a pivotal role in crime solving, disaster victim identification, and counter-terrorism efforts.”
Enanga said that the police DNA and Forensic Testing Service had a lab with cutting-edge equipment and the capacity to test materials for police inquiries. Because of our dedication to justice, victim closure, and national security, the technology will be useful in identifying catastrophe victims, solving crimes, and countering terrorism.
The tests include ones for pregnancy, paternity, and identification of deceased bodies. Examples of DNA testing include immigration DNA testing, cell line authentication, sibling and kinship testing in criminal investigations, and DNA profiling.
To guarantee that the identification, collecting, packing, storage, and transportation of the material adhere to international standards, the Forensic Laboratory will also collaborate with medical officers from the Ministry of Health who handle evidence material for DNA analysis.
While utilising DNA technology to combat crime and defend the country, the Ugandan Police Force enhances its standing as a progressive and tenacious organisation.
On January 28, 2021, Principal Judge Flavian Zeija officially opened the laboratory at Kampala Police Headquarters in Naguru.
