Hundreds of members of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Ewafa Sub County, Obongi District, have defected to the ruling NRM party.

The opposition converts announced their massive defection during a public function organised by the area Woman MP, Maneno Zumura, held at Ewafa Primary School recently.

The group confessed to MP Maneno that one of the reasons they have been against NRM government is because of lies and blackmail by the opposition leaders, especially the FDC and NUP.

According to the converts, they have now seen the light and thanked Obongi leaders and the NRM government for the numerous poverty eradication programmes and income-generating projects delivered to local people.

The converts were received at the function organised by Woman MP Maneno and the district LCV Chairperson, Abib Buga Khemis.

Some of the prominent converts included Mawadri James Akuku, Ayoyi Ameza, and Agasi Faga, the former area Secretary for finance.

MP Maneno also delivered some 280 iron sheets valued at thirteen million shillings to local residents as part of her new programme aimed at providing decent accommodation to them.

Abib Buga Khemis, the Obongi district LCV Chairperson, applauded the converts for joining the winning party, saying the NRM is committed to causing development in the area.

The ceremony was also attended by Obongi RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, the Deputy RDC Jawoko Denis, and both district and sub-county councilors, among others.

In his message, RDC Mpimbaza assured the local residents of peace and security and urged them to always report any suspicious motives to the local authority.
