Residents of Lunyo-central Entebbe Municipality are terrified of monkeys who freely roam their homes and gardens, terrifying their children and ruining maize, mangoes, and avocado gardens.

According to Wilber Twinamatsiko, a Lunyo-central resident, the monkeys had been in the public domain for almost a month and are not scared of residents but the reverse is true.

“Initially, they were eating mangoes and avocados, but now they’re destroying our maize and beans in the garden that aren’t even mature, our chicken can’t stay out in the open because the monkeys keep chasing them around, and we’re worried about our children because they might start hurting them too,” Twinamatsiko said.

He stated that the monkeys have been living on trees around the Virus Research Institute since there are many trees with fruits, but homeowners have been harvesting the fruits for sale, leaving the monkeys with nothing to eat and forcing them to relocate in the populace.

According to Ssalongo Ssekandi LCI chairman Lunyo Village, the monkeys belong to the zoo, not the Virus Institute, and he pledged to contact the zoo personnel to find a solution.

“I was not aware, but now that it has been brought to my attention, I will contact the Zoo staff for an immediate solution,” Ssekandi added.

Residents have asked all relevant authorities to come to their rescue as they are living in fear for lives and livelihood.
