Unknown people dropped a bag with a pistol at the Criminal Investigative Directorate headquarters in Kibuli on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. The headquarters were immediately  cordoned off for investigations, and anyone entering or leaving the premises was stopped.

Initially, the bag was suspected to contain explosive devices, which prompted CID director Tom Magambo to intervene. He immediately alerted the Counter-Terrorism Directorate at Naguru police headquarters, and under the command of ACP Amos Olweny, a bomb squad was dispatched. However, upon examination by the bomb squad unit, a pistol was discovered inside the bag.

According to an eyewitness, the suspicious bag was dumped by individuals on a motorcycle, and the CID director allegedly witnessed the event.

“We don’t know the intentions of the men who dumped this pistol. They came riding so fast, stopped for seconds, and threw this bag at the entrance,” a witness said.

SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, acknowledged the event and stated that actions were being taken to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“The incident is being investigated to see whether the conduct was a delivery method or not. Our forensic ballistic experts have received the evidence for review,” Enanga said.

The CID headquarters’ CCTV team and Naguru police headquarters were tasked with tracking the movements of the suspects.
