πΊπ¬Β Joint Security Forces handover suspected Turkana cattle rustlers to Kenyan authorities
π The Uganda Joint Security Forces have released and handed over suspected Turkana cattle rustlers to the Turkana County Government of the Republic of Kenya.
The exercise, done at Moroto Army Barracks was led by Brig Gen Felix Busizoori, 3 Division Deputy Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), who handed over the six (6) suspects to his counterpart, Peter Eripete, County Secretary and Head of Public service, Turkana County. The suspects were arrested alongside their kinship, the native Matheniko in Karamoja Sub region between February 20- 26.
“Following recent persistent Security and diplomatic engagements between Ugandan and KenyanΒ authorities, we officially hand over six suspects in the gesture of EAC partnership as a sign of peaceful co-existence and brotherhood,” said Brig Gen Busizoori. He urged the Turkana County Government to penalise the suspects for abusing the peaceful co-existence and cross border security arrangements.
“This diplomatic pardon should not be taken for granted as it may lead to impunity. Those who again will violate Ugandan laws will be arrested, arraigned before courts and charged of their offences,” Brig Gen Busizoori warned.

π About 200 traders led by the Kisoro District Chairman, Abel Bizimana have petitioned President Museveni over the prolonged detention of their colleague, Valence Kibyeyi in Kigali, Rwanda without trial. The group claims that the prolonged detention of Kibyeyi has not only affected their involvement in cross-border trade but is also a violation of his rights. The petitioners claim that Kibyeyi was arrested over two years ago by Rwandan Security on charges of tax evasion but has never been charged in Courts of Law for the alleged offence.

πΊπ¬ Road crashes claim 71 lives in one week
πA total of 71 people died in road accidents that happened last week across the country. According to Traffic Police, 322 people were involved in accidents last week and out of the 361 accidents that happened, 64 were fatal, 181 serious, and 116 were minor. Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic and Road Safety Directorate spokesperson says Kampala Metropolitan North, East, and Wamala regions had the most fatalities.

π The Environmental Police have embarked on a campaign to sensitise the public about the new NEMA guidelines on rubbish littering rubbish and noise pollution. Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga Monday said they will take the initiative to sensitise the public before proceeding to carry out arrests of those found littering in public. Enanga was speaking during the weekly police briefing at Police Headquarters in Naguru.
πΊπ¬ Uganda donates 3 tons of aid to Turkey
π Uganda has sent 13 tons of aid to Turkey which recently experienced two earthquakes last month that left over 45,000 dead. The Turkish Embassy in Kampala said in a statement that “we sent via Turkish Airlines, 13 tons of in-kind aid, including 750 mattresses and 550 blankets donated by our Ugandan friends for the victims of the earthquake.”

πΊπ¬ SHOs suspend industrial action, resume work today
π Over 600 striking Senior House Officers (SHOs) Monday resumed work following the suspension of their industrial action by the Uganda Medical Association (UMA) General Assembly. The strike had entered its 14th day over delayed payment of their monthly allowances, among other grievances. Dr. Robert Lubega, the Senior House Officers President says that the annual general meeting also made recommendations for the Government to consider within 30 days.

The Chairman ‘Uganda Kwe Kwaffe’, a business forum based in Canada, Kassim Ssali noted that there are lots of benefits in unions saying that it creates wide and profitable markets as well as knowledge exchange. Ssali adds that the global agricultural technological advancement calls for partnerships to enable businesses mainly in developing countries to thrive.

This follows the arrest of Lydia Mukhoda by Police in Jinja over suspected involvement and recruitment of students in lesbianism related activities.
πΊπ¬ BUDAKA: Residents of Iki-Iki TC receive mosquito nets
π Ministry of Health in partnership with National Medical Stores delivered over 187 bales of mosquito nets to residents of Iki-iki Town Council. According to the District Health Officials, the received mosquito nets will be distributed to Kaitangole Ward 106, Petete Ward 50 and Iki-Iki ward 31 respectively. One Felix, the LC III chairperson cautioned residents against misusing the mosquito nets so as to enable the government achieve its objective of zero tolerance to malaria outbreaks in the country.

π The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres has welcomed the new Oceans Protection Treaty signed by nations over the weekend. He said that he is extremely encouraged that countries have agreed on the UN legally binding instrument to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction. The agreement was reached on Saturday evening, after 38 hours of talks, at UN headquarters in New York.
