President Museveni Visits Acholi Subregion – Gives Tips on Poverty Eradication

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was in the Acholi sub-region yesterday, February 23, 2023, as part of a countrywide visit on poverty eradication through wealth creation.

While meeting the leaders from Acholi sub region, the President emphasized poverty eradication citing wealth creation as the strategy to eliminate the latter.

“I told them my visit to all the 18 zones of Uganda is to repeat my war on wealth creation I have been fighting since 1962,” President Museveni said.

The president iterated that leaders should embrace the Parish development model if they are to elevate their communities from poverty.

President Museveni also encouraged farmers to move from subsistence to commercial farming as the only way to increase house hold incomes.

In his speech, the President gave an example of Mr Osire who in just two years has gone from four acres of planting Chili to owning over 250 acres of land & has diversified into growing & processing produce like Gonja, Pepper, Cashew Nuts etc.

The President added that “This is a good example of how poverty can be eradicated, start with one acre, look after your crop, harvest bigger yields and get more money and then acquire more land for expansion.”

The President addressed local leaders, religious leaders, opinion leaders, elders, farmer groups, NRM leaders and also present were key ministers and members of parliament from Acholi sub region.
