Two Held Over Burning School Dormitory In Sheema

Police in Sheema District have arrested two suspected arsonists for setting ablaze the boys’ dormitory at Bright Age Primary School, a privately owned learning facility.

ASP Daniel Makibwe, the officer in charge of the criminal investigation at Masheruka Police Station, identified the suspects as Jovelyne Kasande, 40, a cook, and a 14-year-old juvenile, also a pupil at the same school.

According to Makimbwe, the arsonists were arrested from school on January 16, 2022, following the incident that occurred that same day around 7 a.m.

Police preliminary findings indicate that Natumanya conspired with Kasande to have the dormitory burned.

“The cook gave Natumanya a matchbox to light the fire, and he lit every mattress that was in the dormitory, including those for students on holiday. He removes his property first before setting the fire,” Makimbwe said.

According to the police, this is the second time Natumanya has been involved in burning the same school.

Whereas, no deaths or injuries were recorded , ASP Makimbwe said several properties, including students’ mattresses and books, among others, were destroyed in the fire incident.

The two are being held at the Masheruka Police Station while further investigations are conducted.
