The Amuria police have arrested a 53-year-old man on charges of allegedly raping his 100-year-old mother.

While addressing media on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the police headquarter in Naguru, SCP Fred Enanga the police spokesperson, said that the police have in custody Otude James, a 53-year-old who raped his 100-year-old biological mother on September 8, 2023 at Olutoi Cell, Asamuk Town Council in Amuria district.

According to Enanga, the suspect arrived home around 11pm and discovered that the mother was already asleep in a house adjacent to his. He proceeded to assault her, tying her hands with a mosquito net, and committing the act of rape.

Enanga mentioned that the suspect returned to Asamuk trading centre, where he had spent the night. However, upon his arrival, he was mobbed by the public. Fortunately, the police were able to rescue him, and was quickly taken to Asamuk Health Centre III for medical attention, and that is where he is currently receiving care.

He explained that upon visiting the scene, he discovered that the door had been broken and the bedding and belongings were scattered throughout the mother’s house.

The police have strongly condemned such acts, stating that it is an unprecedented incident where a son commits the heinous act of raping his own mother. This behavior is not only disgraceful but also goes against the fundamental duty of protecting the elderly.
