The police in Soroti have arrested Anna Margret for battering her husband, Ebuchat Peter, with an axe. The two are residents of Awaliwal village, Soroti District.

According to Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, the couple picked a quarrel at around 4:00 p.m. The husband later left the wife in the sitting room, went to bed and slept.

“The wife, who has a temper, then picked up an axe from inside the house while the husband was sleeping and hacked him in the head,” Enanga said.

Enanga added that an alarm was made, which brought fast responders to the scene. The exhibit was recovered from the crime scene, and the victim was rushed to Soroti referral hospital and is still in critical condition with a wound on the head.

The police say these acts of domestic violence are on the rise due to loss of respect for one another among the couples who choose to fight over small matters that could be avoided.

“These incidents of domestic violence are real and it shows how couples have lost respect and care for one another that a small disagreement can lead to an act of attempted murder,” Enanga said.

The police urge couples to seek help and counselling to address any underlying issues or anger management problems. They also advise couples to reach out to family and friends for support. Domestic violence is a serious issue and should not be tolerated.
