Leaders from West Nile have emphasised the importance of collaboration between local governments and the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) as a major driver of tax compliance and smuggling prevention.
On November 21, 2023, URA met with leaders of Nebbi, Zombo, and Pakwach at Satelite One Hotel (Nebbi) to discuss their roles in revenue mobilisation.
The leaders urged URA to improve collaboration and engage prior leaders to ensure the success of URA programmes.
Geoffrey Mujabi, the regional manager for URA, encouraged leaders to inform their electorates about the opportunity to waive penalties and interest on taxes before it expires on December 31, 2023.
“We educated them on various tax topics as well as new URA innovations designed to make tax compliance easier. We reiterated our commitment to implementing an enhanced tax education programme and working with leaders in the area,” Mujabi said.
Mujabi also committed to addressing the service gaps identified by the leaders and invited them to address any future gaps identified to his office and the channels available at URA.
This workshop was opened by the Nebbi Deputy Chairperson and closed by the Zombo Deputy RDC, Atim Grace Oleyowiya.
The engagement is part of a 3-week-long mobile awareness sojourn in the West Nile region that is set to continue next week in Koboko and Arua.
