UPDF Urges Regional Partnership in Combating Negative Forces

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has emphasized the importance of regional cooperation among armed forces to effectively counteract and weaken negative forces posing a threat to the region.

During a meeting held on November 14, 2023, Lt Gen Peter Elwelu, the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, discussed this matter with Maj Gen Laurent Boite, the Force Commander of the French Forces stationed in Djibouti. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF Headquarters in Mbuya.

Lt Gen Elwelu emphasized the significance of collaborative efforts among regional forces to overcome the challenges posed by these negative forces. He expressed their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation and coordination for mutual benefit.

“We both agreed to enhance our cooperation and coordination for mutual benefit,” Gen Elwelu stated.

Various topics were addressed during the meeting, including capacity building, training, and security challenges.

The event saw the presence of distinguished individuals such as H.E Xavier Sticker, the Ambassador of France to Uganda, French Defence Attaché Lt Col Yann Chollet, and high-ranking UPDF officials, including Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, Chief of Staff – Land Force, and Maj Gen Henry Masiko, Chief Political Commissar, among others.
